- 2008 KFO Membership Survey – In this issue you’ll learn of the valuable results of the survey. Over 30% of you responded to the mail-out survey – that’s about twice as much as a typical survey. Thank you. Two sneak peeks of the results include:
- KFO Newsletter – Most of you readers want the newsletter semi-annually. However, it was suggested that we reduce the labor-intensity of the Spring Newsletter and only have the “Family News” items collected once a year – in the Fall Newsletter. We’ll try that for now.
- Knaphus Family Reunion - It was a “toss-up” between having the next reunion every 2 to 3 years (see results later in this Newsletter). So the KFO Board of Directors and the reunion chair (Rowena Aina) decided that we’ll have the next summer Reunion on July 25, 2009. However, we will have an adult activity later in 2008.
- Update on the Handcart Pioneers Statue donation to the outdoor Norwegian Emigrant Museum in Ottestad, Norway. The site drawings (By KEPCO, INC. that Bruce & Chris Knaphus’ company) are finished. We are making a grant application to a foundation that will potentially fund the project except for 10% of the total money. Any participation by the KFO is appreciated. Please “ear-mark” your check to the KFO to the “Project in Norway” if you would like to help out. If we are able to raise the funds, the unveiling will be in May 2009.
- Family CD-ROM/DVD - One of the major goals of the KFO (you voted it as #4 of importance) is to put together a digital “Book of Remembrance” with histories and photos. Spencer & Beth Humphrey (Bill & Sharla’s son and daughter-in-law) are heading-up this project. We hope to have it available before the end of the year. Great strides have been made and photos are being identified, papers are being gathered, and articles are being scanned. We appreciate their help.
- Update on the J.S. Receiving the Gold Plates – Although this statue was intended for the SL Temple Square, it has been sitting in an obscure museum, called the “Willard Wood Museum,” in Bountiful that is only open in the Summer. The descendents of Willard Wood seem amenable to having it visible to more people.
Finally, on behalf of the KFO, thank you for your support, both financially and with your time. For instance, Amy Sonntag (Bryan & Becky Gerritsen’s daughter) has done a wonderful job at digitizing two documents in this newsletter: 1) Torleif’s description of the Hill Cumorah; and 2) “The Call” – both written by Torleif S. Knaphus. Amy and Darrell Sonntag just had their first baby (Elisa Ruth) on 3 March 2008. She was 6 lbs. 7 oz., 17” long. Congratulations to all three of them!
Thank you so much for all your support. It is an honor to be part of a family organization that has purposes, objectives, goals, and support from its members – like YOU! Enjoy this newsletter and all that it contains.
Med vennlig hilsen, (with warm friendly regards - in Norwegian),
John Gerritsen KFO Chairman |
